What an SA code is
Every option fitted at the factory, from the M Sport package to heated seats, has a unique code. BMW records the full list against the VIN when the car is produced.
You will see them written two ways: a short form like 0337, and a longer form like S337A. They refer to the same option; the S...A form is simply the internal notation.
How the codes are grouped
Codes fall into recognisable families, which is how a good report groups them:
- ·Packages: M Sport, Comfort, Technology bundles.
- ·Comfort: seats, climate control, keyless entry.
- ·Multimedia: navigation, sound systems, head-up display.
- ·Driver assistance: parking aids, cruise, camera systems.
- ·Exterior and wheels: paint, trim, alloy designs.
Why the codes matter when buying
A listing can claim almost anything. The SA codes are the objective truth: they show the options actually ordered from the factory, not what a seller added or invented.
They also reveal desirable rare options that affect value, and let you confirm that an M Sport or Shadowline pack is genuine rather than a retrofit.
